What surprises people the most about the K5 is the top available engine option. Available for the GT trim only, the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine produces 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. It also gets excellent fuel economy for a performance system, hitting 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The GT trim gets from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, too.

Drivers who'd prefer a more efficient and subdued option can get the K5 with a non-turbo 2.5-liter engine. The system performs at 26 mpg city and 37 mpg highway. It still has more than enough motivation to merge with full-speed freeway traffic, thanks to 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines use a front-wheel drive, but a vectored all-wheel drive is available for the GT-Line trim. Note that the AWD sacrifices a couple of mpg of fuel economy. The turbo comes with an eight-speed automated manual transmission, and the non-turbo uses and eight-speed automatic.

Kia K5 Exterior

The lightning bolt-style turn signal on each corner lets people know that you're driving something different. The headlamp assembly extends from the bolt and merges with the handle bar-style grille that has a hex pattern. The bumper includes shallow coves, typical of a performance vehicle. Tipped exhaust ports on the back of the K5 signal a similar vibe. The K5's profile is aerodynamic. It is a four-door sedan with a slightly long rear window.

K5 Interior

Sitting down inside the Kia K5, test drivers will immediately notice the emphasis on build and materials quality. Its terraced dashboard has a digital instrument cluster, a big infotainment screen and a center-mounted vent system that crosses the entire dash. With plush seats that feature high-quality stitching, the K5 offers an elevated experience. The GT trim also includes a D-shaped steering wheel that hints at the car's performance roots. The K5 has seating for up to five people, and the trunk provides an impressive 15.6 cubic feet of cargo room.

2025 Kia K5 Technology

A 12.3-inch infotainment display is standard on the K5, with a navigation option available. Likewise, the standard digital instrument panel is 4.2 inches, but you can upgrade to a system with a curved 12.3-inch digital panel. Over-the-air software updates for the K5 are standard. The base audio system has six speakers, but a premium Bose system with twelve speakers is available. Every K5 supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and SiriusXM. Remote start is also standard. A wireless device charging pad is standard on all but the lowest trim. USB-C charging ports are standard, including ports for the rear passengers.

Safety of the New Kia K5

Side-curtain airbags are standard on every Kia K5, in addition to a host of other airbag systems. Each K5 comes with a rearview monitor and standard blind-spot mitigation systems. Likewise, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure alerts and adaptive cruise control are all standard.

The K5 LXS is the base trim with all of the standard features. It also includes 16-inch alloy wheels. The GT-Line is the next trim up. It adds a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats and 18-inch wheels. The EX is the luxury trim, featuring a panoramic sunroof and LED interior lights. The GT is the power trim with sport seats, performance brakes, quad-tip exhausts and the top engine.
